Yorkshire wedding photographers who travel: why experience matters, at home and abroad
We are Nick and Nic, based in South Yorkshire, and most people find us by searching for wedding photographers in Yorkshire. What they are often surprised by is how many of our weddings happen somewhere else entirely. Here is why we think experience matters most when you are choosing, wherever your day is.
Yorkshire is home, but not where we shoot most
We shoot most of our weddings outside Yorkshire. They have taken us all over the UK and overseas, including New York, Ibiza, Italy, Spain and many more countries. You can see some of the destinations we have been on our destination weddings page.
Being from Yorkshire simply means we know our home turf very well. It does not mean we only know our home turf.
Why experience matters when things go off script
We have photographed over 800 weddings in nearly twenty years. In that time we have seen late cars, delayed ceremonies, sudden rain and plenty of rooms that are darker than anyone expected. None of it worries us any more, and that calm is what you are really booking.
On a normal wedding day, experience means we already know what to do when the plan changes. Abroad, it matters even more, because you cannot pop back to fix something.
What experience looks like abroad
When we travel, we plan before we pack. We think about the light and the time of day, local permissions and customs, and how everyone is getting from A to B. We usually arrive a day early to walk the venue with you.
Destination collections include travel and accommodation, so there is one bespoke quote and no nasty surprises. It is also the same service you would get in Yorkshire: two photographers, the same careful gallery, and the same handmade albums if required.
If you are thinking about getting married abroad, our destination weddings page has more on how it works.
Experienced does not mean stiff
Here is the bit we care about most. Some couples worry that experienced photographers will be formal, with lots of lining people up and shouting names. We are the opposite.
Most of our couples are not into posing, and neither would we be if someone told us to. We would much rather catch the moment your gran steals the dance floor, or the groomsmen lose it laughing in the middle of a speech. We call ourselves photo ninjas: we capture real moments when you and your guests least expect it.
That is the fun side of wedding photography, and it is much easier to get right when you have done it hundreds of times. You stop worrying about the camera because we have stopped worrying about it too.
What to ask when you are choosing
- How many weddings have you shot, and at what kind of venue?
- Will you be the photographers on the day, or will someone else turn up?
- Have you worked abroad, and what does the quote include?
- Will we actually enjoy having you around?
That last one matters. You will spend more time with your photographers than with almost anyone else on the day. Our FAQs answer the questions we get asked most.
Come and say hello
