Helen and Simon's November wedding at Hazlewood Castle, York

Hello, all.

November saw us shooting Helen & Simon’s wedding at Hazlewood Castle near York. An overcast, cold day provided a moody backdrop to one of Yorkshire’s most romantic wedding venues.

Helen & Simon had an amazing day planned, including an evening surprise for their guests.

Preps and a first look on the staircase

We started our day with Helen and her bridal preps. Her gorgeous dress hanging on the mirror was all we needed to start our detail shots. The bridesmaids were all ready for action and did a great job of keeping Helen calm. As well as the bridal preps, we also visited the groom’s room to get some of the boys’ preps.

The dress reveal to the father of the bride soon followed, which gave us some great shots on the antique staircase. A pre-planned holding of hands round a corner proved to be a magical moment: all silent, with the bride and groom grinning from ear to ear.

The ceremony included around 20 guests in one of Hazlewood Castle’s most magical rooms. A reading from their little boy, Alfie, was perfect too.

After the ceremony we managed a great confetti shot in front of the main building, then headed off for the bride and groom’s personal images. Although it was cold and windy, the excitement still grew at the chance to create some great memories for them both.

An evening blessing in the chapel

After the speeches and cake cutting, it was time to welcome their evening guests for the evening blessing, which was to take place in Hazlewood Castle’s very own adjoining chapel at 7:15pm.

With over a hundred evening guests in attendance, the blessing went with a bang. An amazing vicar gave us the run of the chapel to shoot as we wished, even calling us to the very front to make sure we got the kiss.

The rest of the night was perfect, and we would both like to wish Helen & Simon all the best for the future, and a big thank you for making us feel so welcome all day.
